Cairns CBD and Esplanade
Where the convention centre is in the program and delegates walk everywhere. Flat, walkable, and the overwhelming majority of conference grade rooms sit here.
Cairns Wharf and Marlin Marina
Reef access and the casino evening. Shangri-La and Pullman Reef Hotel Casino sit here and the reef departure pontoons are on foot, with no transfer needed.
Northern beaches
Accommodation relief when a city conference outgrows the CBD, or a lower cost residential block. Meeting space is limited, so the plenary stays in town and delegates coach in.
Palm Cove
An incentive or leadership retreat where the village is the experience. Very shallow conference grade room stock, so groups above about 150 to 200 start splitting properties.
Port Douglas
A premium residential retreat or incentive with the reef and rainforest either side. Sheraton Grand Mirage is the only property with real scale, and it is a genuine drive north rather than a short hop.
Daintree and Kuranda
The delegate experience rather than the base. Kuranda works as a half day by road, cableway or the heritage railway, and the Daintree is a day trip or a very small group base staged out of Port Douglas.

Half the year carries weather risk
The Australian cyclone season officially runs 1 November to 30 April, overlapping the wet summer months, and marine stinger season typically runs November through May, which makes open water swimming a supervised, stinger suit activity rather than a casual one. The dry, mild peak from June to August is also when rates and availability are tightest.
It is a single venue market at scale
Between about 650 and 2,500 delegates the convention centre is the only building that works, so there is no competitive tension in that band. Combine that with a narrow weather window and the bookable slot for a large Cairns conference is genuinely tight.
Reef and rainforest programs depend on the weather
A ballroom program is weatherproof and a reef day is not. Where the offsite content is the reason the client chose Cairns, we build a contingency into the shortlist rather than into the apology.
