The area you choose shapes everything from how easily delegates arrive to what you will pay for dinner. These are the ones we source across most, and what each is good for.
City and Civic
Where the convention centre is the plenary and delegates walk between venue, hotel and dinner. Crowne Plaza sits beside the centre and Novotel is a few blocks up Northbourne, which is the deepest walkable room block in the city.
Parliamentary Triangle
The venues you cannot get anywhere else: the National Gallery, the National Museum, Old Parliament House, the Portrait Gallery, Questacon. Essentially no hotel accommodation of its own, so delegates sleep in Barton or Civic and coach in.
Barton
When the agenda is government, defence or peak body and proximity to Parliament House matters more than proximity to the convention centre. Hotel Realm plus the hotels around it give you a conference and its room block in one small pocket.
Kingston Foreshore
Dining, drinks and the social program rather than plenary space. Accommodation is apartment led rather than large blocks, and it is a short drive from both Barton and the Triangle.
Braddon
Informal dine arounds, breakout dinners and brand events with a younger audience, five to ten minutes on foot from the city hotels and the convention centre.
Mitchell and Bruce
Only when the room size forces you out of the city. Exhibition Park for floor beyond 2,000 square metres, AIS Arena for a seated audience above 3,000. Neither has hotels alongside it.

No destination is right for every brief, and the useful conversation is about where the limits are. These are the ones that change a Canberra program most often.
Sitting weeks are the first thing to check
The Canberra Convention Bureau tells planners plainly to work around the Federal Parliament sitting calendar, which is released each November. Accommodation and rates move sharply in a sitting week and a lot of the audience you want in the room is unavailable.
Floriade compresses a month of accommodation
Floriade runs from mid September to mid October in Commonwealth Park and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors. It is a wonderful thing to have on a delegate program and a difficult thing to book a room block against.
The exhibition floor is the ceiling, not the plenary
The Royal Theatre will hold 2,460, but the Exhibition Hall is 2,000 square metres. If your trade floor needs more than that, the exhibition and the accommodation cannot sit in the same precinct, because Exhibition Park has no hotels beside it. A larger convention centre is planned, but its business case is not expected before mid 2028.
