Inspected by CVBS
An integrated resort at Broadbeach with more than 4,000 square metres of event space and more than 1,000 rooms above it. The Event Centre takes 2,300 theatre or 1,200 for a gala. The Star publishes those totals and almost nothing else, which is the thing to know.
What it suits
Good for
- Large conferences to 2,300 with the accommodation on the same site
- Gala dinners and awards nights to 1,200
- Exhibitions in a marquee published as taking 60 trade booths
- Incentive programs that want a resort rather than a city hotel
- Programs wanting a plenary and a 2,150 seat theatre in the one precinct
Look elsewhere for
- Any brief that needs published room by room capacities before shortlisting
- Programs that cannot carry a licensing risk on 2026 or 2027 dates
- Events needing ceiling heights, floor loading or a floor plan up front
- Anything above 2,300 seated, which is the convention centre next door
The event floor
The Event Centre and the smaller function rooms. The Star publishes the totals but no room by room chart, so the shapes below are what there is to go on.
Accommodation
More than 1,000 rooms, suites and apartments across three towers on the one site, rising to about 1,200 once the Andaz tower opens. The Star Grand carries 596 rooms and The Darling 56 suites on figures the operator last published in 2019, and Dorsett 313 rooms from 2025.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means The Star publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from The Star's own conference venues page, checked 7 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
Where a venue’s own sources carry different figures, we use the current one and confirm it with the venue before it reaches a shortlist.

Bigger rooms in Gold Coast
Above 2,300 theatre on the Gold Coast, the convention centre a kilometre and a half away is the answer. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Gold Coast market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.
| The Star Gold Coast, the Event Centre | 2,300 theatre, 1,200 gala |
|---|---|
| Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Full Arena | 6,020 theatre, 1,640 banquet |
| Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Great Hall | 3,900 theatre, 2,700 banquet |

Recent changes
A casino licence suspension is deferred to 30 September 2026 and is unresolved. Queensland deferred a 90 day suspension of the property’s casino licence, and extended the special manager’s appointment, to 30 September 2026. This is published in the operator’s own ASX announcements. It does not stop an event being held, and we are not predicting an outcome. It does belong in the risk conversation for any 2026 or 2027 date, which is why it is here rather than left for you to find.
The Andaz tower is late. Tower 2, bringing 202 hotel rooms and 437 apartments, was due in 2025 and the operator’s own annual report moves it to mid 2026. No confirmed opening date is published. Do not count those rooms in a block until it opens.
The venue does not publish a room by room chart. The Star says thirteen function rooms and publishes neither their names, their areas nor their capacities. The only floor plan link on its site returns a 404. Everything beyond the two totals above has to come from its sales team directly.

Questions organisers ask
What size event can it hold?
The Star publishes 2,300 theatre or 1,200 for a gala dinner in its Event Centre, and more than 4,000 square metres of event space in total, of which more than 1,600 square metres is pillarless.
What are the individual rooms?
The Star says there are thirteen function rooms but does not publish their names, their floor areas or their capacities. There is no room by room chart anywhere in its own material, which is unusual at this size.
Is there accommodation on site?
Yes, and a lot of it. The Star publishes more than 1,000 rooms, suites and apartments across The Star Grand, The Darling and Dorsett, rising to about 1,200 once the Andaz tower opens.
Is there a theatre?
Yes, a separate fixed seat theatre for 2,150. It is not part of the Event Centre and is a different kind of room, so treat the two numbers separately.
Is there anything I should know before booking?
Yes. Queensland deferred a 90 day suspension of the property’s casino licence to 30 September 2026, and the special manager appointment runs to the same date. It is unresolved. That is a published fact from the operator’s own announcements and it belongs in any risk conversation about 2026 and 2027 dates.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 7 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
