Capella Sydney
Hotel24 Loftus Street, Sydney NSW 2000
- 300Theatre
- 240Banquet
- 537Ballroom sqm
- 192Rooms
Inspected by CVBS
A heritage ballroom with 4.6 metre ceilings and daylight down one long wall, a few steps from a 192 room hotel at Circular Quay. 537 square metres, 300 theatre, 240 banquet. The room is long and narrow rather than square, which suits a dinner better than a wide staged plenary.
What it suits
Good for
- Board level conferences and summits to 300
- Gala dinners and awards nights to 240 where the room does the talking
- Product launches and cocktail functions to 420
- Residential programs for a compact delegation with the hotel a few steps away
- Events wanting daylight and heritage rather than a hotel ballroom
Look elsewhere for
- Plenaries above 300, and any wide staged set
- Trade exhibitions
- Large room blocks. 192 rooms is the ceiling
- Programs booking into the rest of the building before it completes in late 2026
Accommodation
192 rooms in the hotel, which sits beside the event floor rather than above it. For a residential program that is a short walk between the plenary and the bed, not a lift ride.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.
The rest of the building
Restaurants, bars and public areas.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means Capella publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from Capella's own meetings and events brochure, checked 7 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
Where a venue’s own sources carry different figures, we use the current one and confirm it with the venue before it reaches a shortlist.
The building
Bigger rooms in Sydney
The ballroom caps at 300 theatre because of its proportions rather than its floor area, so a larger plenary belongs elsewhere in the city. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Sydney market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.
| Capella Sydney, The Capella Ballroom | 300 theatre, 240 banquet |

| ICC Sydney, Grand Ballroom | 2,784 theatre, 2,000 banquet |

Recent changes
The event spaces are not in the hotel. They are on level two of The Lands, the heritage building next door, which opened on 2 February 2026 under its own sub brand and has its own listings. The hotel by itself tops out at 80 guests. Capella publishes one combined capacity chart for the two, so we hold them as one record.
The building is half open. Capella’s own material says the full 10,000 square metre building, with restaurants, retail and cultural spaces, completes in late 2026. Only level two is trading. Recheck this record in about six months.
One figure differs between Capella’s own sources. Three capacity documents give cocktail as 420 and one pre-opening press release says 400. The chart outranks the release, so 420 stands.

Questions organisers ask
What size event can it hold?
The Capella Ballroom is 536.83 square metres with a 4.6 metre ceiling and takes 300 theatre, 240 banquet, 152 classroom, 420 cocktail and 210 cabaret. The Liberty Ballroom is the second room at 145 theatre.
Why is theatre only 300 in a 537 square metre room?
Because the room is long and narrow, about 9 metres wide by 54 metres long, so theatre is limited by sightlines rather than by floor area. At 1.79 square metres a head the venue is under claiming, not over. Banquet at 240 is the more natural fit.
Where are the event spaces?
Not inside the hotel. They are on level two of The Lands, the heritage building next door, which opened on 2 February 2026 under its own sub brand. The hotel itself tops out at 80 guests.
Is the building finished?
No. Capella’s own material says the full 10,000 square metre building, with its restaurants, retail and cultural spaces, completes in late 2026. Only level two is trading, so this record wants rechecking in about six months.
Is there accommodation on site?
Yes, 192 rooms in the hotel, a few steps from the event floor rather than above it.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 7 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
