- 1,300Banquet
- 3,000Cocktail
- 2,222Pavilion sqm
Inspected by CVBS
A racecourse six kilometres from the CBD with a purpose built conference and exhibition building on it. The Winx Pavilion is 2,222 square metres with a 6.2 metre ceiling and takes 1,692 theatre. The Ballroom above the grandstand adds another 1,163. No rooms on site.
What it suits
Good for
- Conferences and exhibitions to 1,692 in one room
- Gala dinners and awards nights to 1,300
- Large cocktail functions to 3,000
- Events that need free parking close to the city
- Programs wanting a plenary and two 550 theatre galleries above it
Look elsewhere for
- Residential conferences. There is no accommodation on site
- Anything on a race day, until the club confirms the date is clear
- Programs needing rigging points and floor loading confirmed in the brochure
- Events wanting a u-shape figure, which the club publishes for nothing
Accommodation
There is no accommodation at the racecourse. The club publishes a list of partner hotels in Paddington, Double Bay and Coogee. For a residential program that means a transfer at both ends of every day, which is the main argument against the venue.
If you need the beds without the ballroom, that is a normal brief and we run it on its own. See group accommodation for how a room block is held, and corporate accommodation for an ongoing rate program.

Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero
A dash means the Australian Turf Club publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.
Every figure is read from the Australian Turf Club's own venue brochure, checked 7 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.
Where a venue’s own sources carry different figures, we use the current one and confirm it with the venue before it reaches a shortlist.

Bigger rooms in Sydney
Above the Winx Pavilion, Sydney means the convention centre or the showground. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Sydney market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.
| Royal Randwick Racecourse, the Winx Pavilion | 1,692 theatre, 1,300 banquet |
|---|---|
| ICC Sydney | 35,000 sqm of internal exhibition space |
| Sydney Showground, The Dome | 7,000 theatre, 4,000 banquet, 7,200 sqm |
| The Star Event Centre Sydney | 1,460 theatre, 960 banquet |
Recent changes
A new infield precinct was announced on 21 August 2026. The TAB Clubhouse, for about 1,000 people, sits on the infield beside the winning post. The club built it after 2026 TAB Everest corporate hospitality sold out. It is the only new space in three years.
The club’s brochure and its website disagree with each other. The 2025 brochure gives the Winx Pavilion as 1,692 theatre and 1,300 banquet. The Winx Stand web page says 2,030 theatre and 1,250 banquet. The Ballroom is 1,163 theatre in the brochure and 1,100 on the web page. We publish the brochure, which is the more recent document, and flag the conflict. The club also says fifteen spaces while its own chart lists sixteen rows.

Questions organisers ask
What size event can it hold?
The Winx Pavilion is 2,222 square metres with a 6.2 metre ceiling and takes 1,692 theatre, 1,300 banquet and 3,000 cocktail. The Ballroom in the Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand is the second room at 1,163 theatre.
Is there accommodation on site?
No. The Australian Turf Club publishes a list of partner hotels in Paddington, Double Bay and Coogee, but there are no rooms at the racecourse.
How far is it from the city?
The club publishes 6 kilometres from the CBD and 8 kilometres from Sydney Airport, and about ten minutes by light rail.
What about race days?
The club publishes no blackout calendar and no statement of race day availability for conferences. Its private functions pricing tiers race days into non carnival, carnival and TAB Everest Day, which implies the constraint without stating it. Check the fixture card before you commit to dates.
Has anything been added recently?
Yes. A new infield precinct, the TAB Clubhouse for about 1,000 people, was announced on 21 August 2026. The Winx Stand itself opened in early 2022.

Sources, photography and how we work
Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 7 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.
We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.
Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
