Where these figures come from, and why a dash is not a zero

A dash means Sofitel publishes no figure for that setup. It does not mean the room cannot be set that way, only that we will not print a number the venue has not published.

Every figure is read from Sofitel's own capacity chart and conference brochure, checked 7 September 2026. Never estimated, never taken from a directory.

Where a venue’s own sources carry different figures, we use the current one and confirm it with the venue before it reaches a shortlist.

Bigger rooms in Sydney

Above 800 theatre in one room the shortlist moves to the convention centre and the purpose built venues. Each figure below is read from that venue’s own published material. This is not a survey of the whole Sydney market, only the rooms we checked to make sure nothing on this page overstates the building.

Recent changes

Reopened October 2024 after a full refurbishment. Accor announced the refurbished hotel on 21 October 2024. All 436 rooms and suites were redesigned, the public areas rebuilt, and four new food and beverage venues opened in spring 2024 including a rooftop terrace bar with a stated capacity of about 250.

The hotel cannot agree with itself on how many event spaces it has. The conference page and Accor both say fifteen. The homepage says fourteen. The conference brochure says sixteen meeting rooms. The published chart carries sixteen rows, three of which are ballroom divisions and one a combination. We publish the chart rather than the count.

One capacity conflict inside Accor’s own material. The press release describes the ballroom as suiting events of up to 750 guests. Every capacity document says 800 theatre and 800 cocktail. The chart outranks the release, so 800 stands.

Questions organisers ask

What size event can it hold?

The Wentworth Ballroom is 629 square metres with a 5.3 metre ceiling and takes 800 theatre, 500 banquet, 462 classroom, 800 cocktail and 400 cabaret. It divides into the Sydney, Perth and Melbourne Rooms, each of which is a usable room in its own right at 301 and 263 theatre.

How many event spaces are there?

The published capacity chart lists sixteen rows over levels three, four, five and eight, although three of those are divisions of the ballroom and one is a combination. Sofitel’s own pages variously say fourteen, fifteen and sixteen.

Is there accommodation on site?

Yes. 436 rooms and suites, made up of 391 rooms and 45 suites. The suites are one Wentworth Suite, 33 Prestige Suites and 11 Junior Suites. There is an executive lounge on level five.

Has it been refurbished?

Yes, comprehensively. Accor announced the refurbished hotel on 21 October 2024. All 436 rooms were redesigned, the public areas were rebuilt and four new food and beverage venues opened in spring 2024, including a rooftop terrace bar.

Is the courtyard a bookable event space?

No. The garden courtyard appears in the hotel’s own material as an outlook rather than a hireable space, and it is not a row on the capacity chart. The rooftop terrace carries a stated capacity of about 250 but is presented as a bar.

Sources, photography and how we work

Capacities read from the venue’s own published material on 7 September 2026. Comparison figures read from each named venue’s own published material on the same date.

We do not see every room on every visit. Where we were not in a room, its figures come from the venue's own chart rather than from us. We do not rate or score venues and we do not publish rates.

Our service is free to you. We are independent of every venue we put forward, no venue is favoured, and your interests come first.
